What an album this is too. Few bands could ever repeat the level of quality DM had throughout the 80s. And they opened up the 90s with an album that made the band household names in the states.

You’d think that this album would have aged. But it still sounds amazingly fresh. Brilliant from start to finish.

I absolutely love this guy. As both the creative genius behind Emperor (the greatest black metal band of all time) and as a solo artist. He has yet to release a bad album. Each one pushing the envelope of progressive metal.

This one has some way harsh metallic sections not least the opener “Lend Me The Eyes Of Millennia” but also some quite astonishing subtle parts too.

It’s up there as one of my albums of the year so far.

After the restrained Ki I knew things were going to be very different the second the opening track exploded.

Addicted is Prog Pop Metal. Something that Devin does very well. In fact most of the DTP albums after this four set run were variations on this theme. Epicloud, Sky Blue and Transcendence all follow in similar tracks with Anneke Van Girsbergen on guest vocals too.

But Addicted had some of Devs finest songs. The reworked Hyperdrive (from Devs first album about Ziltoid) and Supercrush are two outstanding examples. But overall this album is a joy to behold.

The first DTP album was an odd one. Striped back, held back, tranquil yet menacing. It was an exercise in restraint.

At times the manic brutality would raise it’s head like on Disruptr but mostly it was held back. It has a swing vibe. Like I say…odd.

Took me quite some time before I started to love it. Now there are some great tracks on here. Particularly Coast.

I don’t own any of them on vinyl. Deconstruction and Ghost have never been on vinyl and Ki and Addicted are quite expensive. So this is win win win.

I’ve said loads about this album before. The fact that it’s in my top 10 of all time says a lot.

A beautifully constructed album of emotionally charged Prog that draws as much from metal as it does rock. Many of the tracks are orchestrated with lush strings as they hit you right in the feels time after time. A masterpiece.

Bwthyn Bwlch is in the middle of nowhere. Half a mile to the nearest neighbour and over 3 miles to Denbigh the nearest town. At night it will be dark. I’m looking forward to seeing some stars.
